To my knowledge standard size Lego Mirrorboxes were produced from 2011 to 2016: In 2011 Lego started a high-tech advertising concept for their models. They introduced the so called Mirrorboxes that contained animated movies with Lego figures and models projected into a scene of real Lego models. That was realized with the known mirrorbox technique with an LCD screen playing the movie and a 45° semi translucent mirror in front of a real scene. That provides a simulated holographic view in which the animated characters interact with the real scene:
To my knowledge Lego made two sizes of mirrorboxes: A small box and a larger XXL size box for special promotions mainly in Germany. The small mirrorboxes were built by Loevschall Denmark. With these Loevschall boxes Lego invented an intelligent concept of standard boxes containing all the electronics with the possibility to use update kits including new models and new videos on SD card. That allowed the expensive boxes to be reused every half year or so for new promotions. As said Mirrorboxes were quite expensive so Lego allocated them only to bigger toy stores. The distribution was mainly in Europe with focus on Germany, UK, Ireland, Netherlands and France. Relatively few boxes were distributed to the US. Seems Hero Factory was promoted exclusively there.
I saw a new XXL Lego Hidden Side Mirrorbox in 2020 in Nuremberg/Germany. Here Lego used a commerical version of such a box like e.g. hologram3ddisplay.com offers.
In 2022 a new type of XXL-"mirrorbox" was spotted in large stores, e.g. in Stockholm or Paris. This featured the Star Wars Razor Quest ship and had some kind of back projection for the scene, so actually no mirror in this one.
It seems that Lego doesn't update the small Mirrorboxes anymore and that they retired in 2016. Most of them got recycled as I assume. Anyway, on the secondary market it is possible to find original boxes, updated boxes, or more or less complete update kits.
